Surgery #5

Ari went in for her fifth surgery at 7:30 this morning.  This is her second surgery since we’ve arrived in Boston.   The fourth surgery (first one here in Boston) was exploratory to see what condition she’s in and to get a better idea of the how long her gap is.
They found her chest cavity contaminated and infected from the three previous surgeries in Oregon.  There is also lots of scarring from the previous surgeries which will make it slightly more difficult for Dr Jennings.  They cleaned up the infection as much as they could, put her on antibiotics and scheduled surgery #5 for today.

We’re nearing four hours in surgery now.  The latest update is that they will not place the external sutures to start the lengthening process today.  They found her chest cavity is still highly inflamed.   She is still in surgery and we’ll give an update once she’s out.

Ella continues to get more and more fans at the hospital. She is a little celebrity, with her outgoing personality and white blonde hair.   All the nurses and other staff all know her.

Nina and Matt are operating on 5-6 hours of sleep a day so it’s a good thing we’re not operating heavy machinery.
