Happy New Year everybody!!! 2012 is going be our year we can feel it.
After a cross-country trip and 133 days in the NICU and many of those days under heavy sedation and paralytics (for the baby but I think we could have used those too), our warrior princess finally has a connected esophagus!!! The amazing Dr. Jennings and Dr. Foker at Children’s Hospital of Boston were able to grow the esophagus long enough to close the 6.5cm gap. They also removed the 3 tubes that were in her left side and it appears that the chylothorax leak has been repaired as well. We’ve been waiting for this big step for the longest time and it has finally happened. Your prayers and positive energy have worked and we are very grateful.
While there are many, many steps that lie ahead, we feel embolden by this progress and will work as hard as Ariana has in getting through these as well.
The timing of everything going forward is to be determined as we go along, but we do know that she will still be under paralytics for probably another week and still on the ventilator until they lift the paralytics.
We are happy to share this news and appreciate everybody checking in here. We will continue to keep you updated until we can actually bring little Ariana home to where she belongs.
