Does it ever get better???

Our little angel turned 7 months old last week and poor thing has not experienced the life she should have or will have in the future.  Nina has been very involved with the whole surgical team and everybody caring for her.  I'm pretty sure that Nina has a future in medicine if she wants it

As you can imagine, the longer you are in the hospital the more the chances of problems developing. We unfortunately are starting to side effects of her long stay in the NICU

We have recently found out that Ari has lung disease (read: lung injury) and she is leaning towards cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat).   They've started weaning her on one of the medications to help correct the arrhythmia and she is suffering through withdrawals.  We unfortunately also found out that side effects from some of the drugs and being on the vent has damaged her hearing.  She has not lost all hearing but will have problems with certain frequencies and sounds and will have use hearing aids

One piece of good news that we received is her EGD done today showed that her esophagus looks good and they were able to do a dilation that expanded it from 4mm to 8mm.  It will need to be at 10-12mm before she will be able to eat solid foods.

We keep waiting for things to turn for the better but so far it's been tough.

Hang in there Nina, I can not even imagine how difficult this is for the whole family, but especially you. Gavin and I continue to pray together every night for Baby Ari to get better so that she can be together with her family in Portland. I will add to my personal prayers for her that there be a reversal of any and all of these negative side effects. God is good, and He can do wonderful and amazing things. Continue to trust in Him, and know that as hard as it is to see right now, He has a greater plan for your family. Thank you for the update, we care.
