Ariana has had a rough go of it the past day. Her swelling has been going down which is great but she has recently developed a 102 degree fever and had a couple bad episodes where she looked grey and her blood gas readings were not where they should be. They have done blood, urine, and throat cultures to test for any kind of infections. There’s a 48-hour window to determine if any infections are present, so far so good.
Thursday they are planning on doing an esophagram to check if there are any leaks from her connection. They will inject barium in her esophagus and follow it down to her stomach and hopefully it all stays contained where it should be. If it goes well, the last remaining chest tube will be removed.
Nina and I are realizing that in 3 short days our family is going to be changed once again. I’m flying home with Ella this Saturday and Nina will be staying in Boston. Ariana really responds well to Nina’s voice and touch, so we feel fortunate that Nina can stay in Beantown. Nina’s “mommy love” is something that no hospital can offer and even the best surgeon can’t duplicate. We honestly don’t know how much longer it will be before they can go home. It could be a month or several months. My guess is closer to 2 months. We’ve never been apart for this long so it’s going to be tough on us all.
If you have a snow day off from work or school tomorrow, enjoy the time with your family and give them an extra hug.

Hoping and praying for the best as always. I love the picture of Ella and the frog...what a cutie.
Sending you all lots of love and prayers today! Please keep us posted on how the esophagram goes!
It breaks my heart to hear about Ari's temp. Just when I thought we were taking 2 steps forward, here we are taking one step back. Ella's pic cheers me up but I'll continue sending prayers your way. Love you all so much.
