Today was an emotional day. Ella and I (Matt) had to say goodbye to Nina and Ariana. As well as all the nurses, doctors, and the place we've called home for the past 3 months. It's really true that any place you have your loved ones and people that care about you is your home. Physical locations and possessions are fleeting parts of your life. Enjoying time together and even moments that aren't enjoyable at the time but experiences that contribute to who you are and what the future may be.
We've met amazing people that are so giving and open even though life has dealt them a bad hand. Many people have made it through with their belief in God and the support of their churches. We've met grandparents who moved to Boston with their grandchild because to be on the organ donor list you have to live a certain distance from the hospital.
We've met a family that had to have several medical flights to Boston and the father didn't blink when he was told it would cost $100k. As his insurance hit the lifetime maximum at the time, his company retroactively increased it to cover everything.
We met an amazing lady that packed up her 3 young daughters and newborn and drove from Florida to Boston with literally the clothes on their back. Unfortunately we also met 2 families that both lost their babies shortly after being born.
It puts everything in perspective. As I imagine what a bad day was before all this, it might have consisted of someone cutting you off, elderly lady in front of you writing a check at the grocery store, or someone eating the last VooDoo Donut.
Ella has been sleeping on my lap this entire flight, peaceful. I feel sad that she doesn't know that we won't see mamma for a while now. Nina has been so strong thru all this. I feel lucky to have married such an amazing woman and mother.
I hope the Portland raindrops are soothing tonight and we can fall asleep.

Matt, maybe you should be a writer. This last entry brought tears to my eyes. You are now realizing what really is important in life--relationships! You were fortunate so make so many nice friends and meet so many people from all walks of life that share your pain and love for a sick child. Love mom
Pretty amazing words Matt. We love you guys so much and can tell that the past 3 months have made you grow in ways you haven't before. It'll be nice when all this is in the past and Ari's dancing in her school's recital-or cheering at a football game! Love you with all of my heart. Kiss little Ella Bella for her auntie Am and Uncle Brian!
