The Truth of the Matter

As I hit the publish button on the last post, Ari's alarms went off.  A "code alert" was called.  Nurses and doctors rushed to her bedside and this little room was full of people.  Ari was blue and unresponsive.  They had to revive her.   And they did, thank goodness.  Her status has been tenuous since Friday.  They've switched between the BIPAP and CPAP (http://bipapvscpap.net/) to help her as much as they could.  She has struggled with her breathing all weekend so today, they re-intubated her.  They took some cultures and found she has a respiratory infection.  This is what caused her to spiral.

She is doing great now that they put the breathing tube back in.  She did well without it for a full week which is a good sign.  This is a small setback but we'll have her back on track in no time.  Her breathing muscles are weak so she needs to work hard.  With time she'll have enough strength to breathe on her own.  She also needs to learn to cough and swallow.  She has some work to do ahead of her.
